Die Sopranistin Aleksandra Kurzak verfügt nicht nur über eine gute Höhe, sondern vor allem auch über eine wunderbar offene, warme tiefe Lage, wie sie gleich am Beginn des Programms im reizenden "Zyczenie" unter Beweis stellt. Alles in allem also eine wahrhaft reife Leistung – eine wirklich schöne CD zum Chopin-Jahr!

Chopin’s songs have received more recordings than first might be imagined, many of them featuring famous female voices. But dramatic sense has not always been best served, given that several are drinking songs, ballads of war or verses describing a jilted boyfriend (the story of Chopin’s life).As on the recent National Edition disc..., the new release in the invaluable and revelatory The Real Chopin series gets the balance just right by dividing the songs between a soprano and baritone. The composer’s aff ection for these unpretentious pieces is easy to understand in performances of such shining freshness and ardour. Given their predominant tone of simple lyricism, Aleksandra Kurzak is perfect casting here, and her glinting soprano moves easily between melancholy and shy eroticism. Mariusz Kwiecień sings with pliancy and warmth, and Nelson Goerner conjures up dusky colours from the 1848 Pleyel. Quite simply, my favourite CD release of the Chopin year.

W czarnej serii postawiono na czołówkę: Aleksandra Kurzak, Mariusz Kwiecień i towarzyszący im na pleyelu Nelson Goerner. Oboje śpiewacy wykonują Chopina z ciepłym, aksamitnym dźwiękiem, ale – co zaskakujące – Kurzak, mimo że ma głos sopranowy, śpiewa dosyć nisko, ciemną barwą. Czasem może zbyt słodko (ale takie są te pieśni), nawet z czułością, zawsze aktorsko.

Kurzak imparts an elegant sadness to 'Faded and Vanished', with some beautifully placed upper notes. Kwiecien, sporting a most agreeable tone, with focus and smoothness, is equally pleasing on the ear...He introduces sufficient light and shade to reflect the words whatever the song. He and his fellow artists make this a very worthwhile and satisfying disc.

Frédéric Chopin: "Pieśni - Lieder" Mit Aleksandra Kurzak, Sopran Die drei Interpreten widmen sich diesen Liedern ebenso ernsthaft, wie man es mit Schumann- oder Schubert-Liedern macht. So klingen sie nicht seicht, sondern anrührend, weich und stimmungsvoll. Die beiden Sänger besitzen eine gute Technik, geschmeidige Stimmen, singen sehr natürlich und einfühlsam. Sie nehmen jedes Lied als Kleinod wichtig.

For its freshness, her "Wiosna" (Spring) it the most appealing I have heard on record... This unpretentious disc comes highly recommended. It could be one of the most significant releases of the Chopin year.

Frédéric Chopin ist weltberühmt geworden als Komponist von Klavierstücken. Werke aus anderen Gattungen sind weniger bekannt, aber es gibt sie: In der Edition des Warschauer Chopin-Institutes - sie ist der historischen Aufführungspraxis verpflichtet - sind Chopins Lieder erschienen. Zwei herausragende junge polnische Sänger, die bereits ein beachtliches internationales Renommee haben, singen die 19 "Chansons polonais" (polnischen Lieder): die Sopranistin Aleksandra Kurzak, die eine Zeit lang auch zm Ensemble der Hamburgischen Staatsoper gehört hat, und der Bartion Mariusz Kwiecień; beide sind schon an der New Yorker MET aufgetreten. Nelson Goerner begleitet die Sänger auf dem Pleyel-Hammerflügel von 1848... Was gerade diese Lied-CD so wertvoll macht, ist nicht nur Chopins anrührende Musik. Es sind vor allem auch die beiden fantastischen Sänger: die Sopranistin Aleksandra Kurzak und der Bariton Mariusz Kwiecień. Beide haben wunderschöne Stimmen, sind technisch auf höchstem Niveau und sind große Musiker; sie singen diese - es ist hier nicht abwertend gemeint - nicht erstklassige Musik so, dass sie erstklassig klingt. Das ist eine große Kunst. Und das macht diese Chopin-Lieder-CD zu einem Kleinod.
